Journal #2- About Bobbi

My full name is Bobbi Dallas Swan. As most of you know I have a twin sister in this class, Bethany, who I am a full two minutes older than. I was born in Columbus and have lived here my whole life. I graduated from Olentangy High School in 2017 and currently work at Roosters (a wings place) as a hostess/server. I love music, all kinds, and play the piano and violin myself. It's a kind of stress reliever for me. Soccer has and always will be my favorite sport. I've played since the age of 4-5 and still play today. I have a beautiful Golden Retriever named Gabe (named by Bethany) who is the center of my world. Skiing is something I enjoy doing in my free time and I am currently in the process of teaching myself how to snowboard. Lastly, traveling is a passion of time. I have been fortunate enough to have done lots of traveling in my short 19 years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

The advice that has been most helpful to me so far in my reading of Four Genres In Brief would be on page 10. There is a quote from John Keats that says "if poetry come not as naturally as the leaves to a tree, it had better not come at all." What has always been a trouble for me when writing is that I tend to try to think too hard about what I want to say instead of letting it flow naturally and then revising later. This advice has already helped me to write my last poem. I know not to try to force a poem out of me, but to write about what comes to mind, what comes naturally.

  1. Do you work at the polaris roosters? Love that place, a fun casual joint!
After being so many places, do you still think you will stay around here after graduating?

  2. Bobbi, the advice you took from the chapter is so vital. I also think Hugo's theories that we don't exactly know what the real poem is about when we start writing is helpful, as it takes some pressure off to try to figure it out in our head if it's really in our heart or somewhere else waiting to come forward?!
